Border Crossing from Laos & Cambodia
hello, did the border between Laos& Cambodia are open to tourists and from where can I passing in the north of Vietnam to Laos (near the border with Chine) ?

It is not officially open to foreign travelers. However it is possible to cross by paying money to Cambodia immigration officers. Crossing from Cambodia to Laos is easier than the other direction because Laos officials don't ask you any money at this moment.
If you enter Cambodia from Laos, you should make sure you get the entry stamp from Cambodia officials even though they say you don't need it. If you don't, you will have a big problem when you leave.

Travel from Vietnam to China
Thanks for the information regarding border crossings from Thailand into Cambodia. We only have 7 weeks to go now before we set off on our travels. I'm so excited. Our first port of call is India, then Nepal followed by Indochina. From Vietnam we are planning to go to China. We are trying to find out whether we can book the train that goes from Hanoi to Beijing. I've found a timetable on the net and believe there is a direct express train but can't find out how to book it! We'd like to organize this booking before we leave the UK if possible because we are booked on an organized tour in China and don't want to risk missing the start date. Any advice?

It is very hard to BOOK transport in SE Asia. The traveling style in SE Asia is completely different from Western world. There are many things will happen which constantly changing your trip. It is almost impossible to travel as you originally planed. Do you still want to book/fix your trip?
I cannot guarantee but it may be possible to do it. Contact to some of travel agents in Hanoi. Sinh Cafe is one of them. There are many cafes, travel agents in Vietnam, can organize your trip. I am not sure their e-1-mail address unless our pages list them.

The border between Cambodia and Laos is not open for the foreigners. However it is possible to cross with paying unofficial fee. Please see our Stung Treng for more details.

River Cruise in Asia
Could you help recommend some good rivers in South-east Asia for river expedition/cruise? I know of the famous ones - Mekong, Irrawady, and the Chao Phraya ... what about the other lesser known ones, especially in Indonesia and Malaysia ...?

I am very sorry to say that we don't have enough information for the river cruises in Asia to recommend to you. Only things we know are ones Mekong river and some minor rivers in N. Laos. Have you tried to all segment for the Mekong? There are many parts of the Mekong you can enjoy taking a boat trip in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
In Laos, Nong Khiaw(Muang Ngoi) to Munag Khua you can take a boat. Also Luang Namtha to Houexai. But both are for tourists. Local people take buses nowadays. You have to find people to share the boat.

Flight from Burma to Vietnam
I am going to be in Burma in December 2001 I would like to know if there are flights from Burma to Vietnam (Hanoi). What kind of events are there to see in December?? Many Thanks;

As long as we know there is no flight from Myanmar to Vietnam. If you would like to confirm it, please contact to any normal travel agent in your town. They have a computer to check all possible flight from A to B.

we don't have the address of the post office. However it is possible to send the mail to it. You can write to GPO, Yangon, Myanmar. It is enough to send the mail to it.

		Visa for India in BKK? Does anyone know the feasibility of getting a visa for India whilst in Bangkok rather than London?... is it easy?
