Situated in Eastern Slovakia, 25km
from Poprad, Levoca is an attractive historic town that is popular
with day trippers - it is easily visited from Poprad or any of
the High Tatras towns. Half to 1 day is enough to see the sights.
During the 14th & 15th C. Levoca was a major trade center
in Central Europe however from the 17th C onward its importance
waned. Now a small quiet local town, its rich heritage is visible
only in the medieval architecture of the central area.
Home of the famed wood carver Master Pavel, many of his works
can be seen in several of the buildings on the main square. |
