 Zakopane,
located at the foot of the Tatra Mountain Range in the S, is
the main base for skiing & hiking activities in Poland.
In the past Zakopane's impressive mountain scenery attracted
writers and artists. Now however Zakopane is a full-blown tourist
resort with all the services and facilities, people and traffic
congestion that goes hand in hand with mass tourism. Those seeking
a quiet mountain retreat should avoid the center and the main
hiking routes or head for a different destination.
This is a popular entry/exit route between Poland and Slovakia.
It is possible to travel by bus between Poprad and/or the High
Tatras (Slovakia) and Krakow (Poland) within a day, so you don't
have to break journey in Zakopane, though you will have to change
transport here and probably at the border. |
