Warsaw,
the capitol of Poland, doesn't have the same tourist appeal as
other Polish cities such as Krakow & Gdansk. Many visitors
use it as a transport or transit point, spending only 1 or 2
nights here on route to other destinations.
Once regarded as one of the most attractive, sophisticated cities
in Europe, it suffered almost complete destruction during World
War II. A massive building program was carried out and, though
much of Warsaw is an ugly modern city, the old city was faithfully
restored. It is a beautiful area with a number of historic and
cultural sights and is listed on UNESCO's register of World Cultural
Heritage Sites. |
