Gyor is a Hungarian gateway city for Vienna,
located half way between Budapest and Vienna where the rivers,
Danu, Raba and Rabca meet. This gave this town the strategic
role against Turkey in the 13 th century and a fortress was built.
In 16 and 17 th century, Gyor was a trade center. At the end
of the 19 th century, engineering industry brought money and
rich Baroque culture to Gyor. The town center is a pedestrian street called Baross Gabor. As you come out from the train station, find a large bridge over the railway which is Baross G. and the information office is on this street. The oldest section is the N end of the street. |
