Train to Romania: Szeged is very close to Romania. Buy round trip tickets to Romania as they are cheaper than one way. Arad(R) via Bekescsaba(H): More trains are running from Budapest to Arad via Belescsaba(H), Lokoshaza(H), Curutici.(R) See Budapest transport for more details. You may have to change trains at Lokoshaza. International train tickets are expensive. So you may go to the closest to the border with domestic fare and buy the international one to Arad to save money. But if the train go through to Arad, you cannot get off the train, buy a ticket and come back to the same train. You have to wait for the next train.
