Split is a favorite destination for the wealthy Italians. It is dominated by Diocletians Palace, and the old town which exists within the Palaces walls. Prices are slightly higher here than in Northern Croatia, and there is no good budget accommodation besides private rooms. The seafront is full of classy restaurants and street parades at all times of the night, whereas the best beach is 2km S of Old Town on Obala Kneza Domagoja.

The train/bus station is 500m S of old town. From the stations head N on Obala Kneza Domagoja 500m to Obala Hrvatskog Norodnog Preporada, then head E on Hrovojeva 100m until you come to the Silver Gate. This is the entrance to the Old Town. The Cathedral and Belltower of St Dominus is 10m through the gate.
