Pula is a mixed bag. It has a disgusting beach, made horrible over the years because of pollution, and a rather drab modern looking city. However, it does have ancient Roman ruins made before BC, which are considered the countries true treasures. The nearby beaches are near the cheap accommodation The bus station is in the center of town. 10 m E is the Tourist office both on Istarska ulica. This leads to Sergijevaca, which is the Old Town. |

| The accommodation in the city centre is extremely expensive. Although the hostel and camping site is quite a distance away, it is on the doorstep of the best beaches, so they are the best option. | ||

Omladinski Hostel: Zaljev Valsaline 4. T210003. sb d85KN bf C3 (10% with HI card) Fairly basic rooms and cramped conditions but the
location is excellent. Pula actually does not have a beach, just a smelly wharf with huge vessels. But here at the hostel are crystal clear waters. Be sure to call ahead. Access: From a bus stop E from bus stationo on Istarska Ulica, catch bus #2 'Veruda' to the last stop, 20 min, follow the HI signs from here. |

Hotel Riviera: Spiltska Ulica 5. sb s137KN, d220KN C2. Once
a grand five star hotel, but now a one star dive with no views
at all. To be frank it is very depressing but is the cheapest
hotel by far. This huge 300 room hotel, seems to have a staff
of only two. Come here only as a last option. Access: From the bus station head south on Carrarina ulica This will become ulica Sv. Ivana that ends at Riva ul. Head east to the end of the street. This becomes Spiltska Ulica |

Stoja Camping: T24144. 40KN/p You need your own tent. Situated on a little peninsula,
the location on the camping ground is the envy of all the 5-star
hotels. Has basic facilities, and a great beach area. Highly Rec Access: From a bus stop E from bus stationo on Istarska Ulica, catch bus #1 'Stoja' to the last stop, 20 mins, |

Fish and Chips Foggy: Kandlerova Ulica 44. 8-15.00, 18.00-22.00. Seafood,
5KN-20KN. Perhaps the smallest restaurant in the world,
this tiny hole in the wall only big enough to fit a oven and
fridge sells cheap seafood, rolls and chips. An excellent option
that is proven by the huge line always outside it. Highly Rec Access: From the bus station head south on Carrarina ulica for 2 min, then turn west on Kandlerova Ulica. |

The Bounty: Veronska 8. M-F10.00-23.00, Sa13.00-21.00,
Su14.00-20.00. Irish, 12KN-40KN. The most popular place in town for all the young
students. Every town had an Irish pub, and this one is better
than most. Excellent rustic atmosphere where the locals eat such
dishes such as 'Shepherds pie' and 'bangers and mash'. Many ex-pats
come here also. Access: From bus station head east down Istarska Ulica. When you see Flanaticka ul, looking west head up the street, Vereonska is off this street. |

Orfey: Kandlerova 6. 10.00-22.00. Italian, 10KN-30KN. Popular Italian outdoor restaurant that has excellent
seafood and pasta. It is a bit more expensive than other restaurants,
but the servings are large. Access: From the bus station head south on Carrarina ulica for 2 min, then turn west on Kandlerova Ulica. Rec |

| S1 | Amphitheater: 7.30-21.00 15KN students 8KN. From the bus station head west Itarska for 100 m. This is one of the great Roman ruins still intact today, and perhaps Croatia's most popular tourist attraction after Dubrovnik. Built when the Romans settled here around 1AD, this Amphitheater (like the colleseum) housed gladiator contests and other events. Today, top music artists such as Sting and U2 play inside of it. Italian tourists love to see what their forefathers had made. This is a must see. Highly Rec |
| S2 | The Forum:10.00-13.00, 14.00-18.00 6KN. From the bus station, head east on Istarska for 200 m, then head south on Sergievaca which runs into the Forum The Arch of the Sergians built in 2BC is the entrance to Sergijevaca, a tiny scobble stoned street full of ice cream shops and souvenir shops. At night time many painters and performers appear and entertain the tourists and the young locals. This leads to the Forum, a small square that holds the Temple of Augustus, a pillared type structure built in 2BC. |
