One
of the oldest cities in Malaysia. During the 15th century, Melaka
was one of the main trading centers between the E & W. Reputedly,
larger than London. Colonial powers have played an influential
role in shaping Melaka's character, first controlled by the Portuguese,
followed by the Dutch, and finally the English. Its colonial
past is very much evident in its distinctive architecture.
Melaka is a popular destination. It has
a number of interesting tourist sights. It's a comfortable, relaxing
town, easy to wander around and has an excellent choice of food
and accommodation options. As a stopover option to/from Singapore,
it is far more pleasant than KL. |
