The roads from Phonsavan are very
bad. During the rainy season, many roads may not be accessible.
The numbers of buses may be reduced. The S route, Pokoune to Phonsavan is open for foreigners. Possible to travel within 24 hours to Vientiane/Luang Prabang via Pokoune. There are two different routes to go to Luang Prabang and Vientiane. N. route takes 2 days to LP and 3 days to V. and S. route via Pokune takes 1-2 days to LP or Vientiane. Since the road between Pokoune and Ponsavan is very bad, a military truck is used. Therefore you have to change a normal bus at Pokoune, but the tickets are good to Vientiane. Between Phonsavan and Pokune, the bus runs during night time and the bus is guarded with guns for possible attack guerrilla or thieves. |
