Khuang is a small town in N Laos. It has one main attraction
- Thong Hay Hin - the 'Plain of Jars', a huge plateau, 10km SE.
of the city, where many mysterious huge bottled shaped stone
pots were discovered. However most travelers were disappointed
and thought the plain of the Jars cannot be justified with the
hard journey they had experienced.
Apart from the Plain of Jars, there are a few nice local markets,
hot springs and poppy fields in November.
The most practical access to the town is
by air. The overland journey is very hard. From Vientiane or
Luang Prabang, you go to Pokune on the route 13, then take very
bad road to Phonsavan for 6-14 hours. This route is very new
for foreigners. There seems to be the possibility of robbery.
The bus is guarded with guns. From Luang Prabang you can also
take the N route which takes 2-3 days.
The area code has been changed to 061 and
the most of the telephone numbers have been changed. |
