Built by the French early this century, Savannakhet.is an
attractive relaxing local town. It's a good place to break journey
on the way to the 4,000 island area or to Vietnam/Thailand. A
key transport hub:- to the North-West - the capitol Vientiane;
to the East - the road to Vietnam, to the South - Pakse and on
to the 4000 islands, to the West - the river to Thailand. Whichever
direction you head off in, you will have to stay at least one
night here.
The town lies on the east side of the Mekong river. The bus
terminal is in the north, the airport is in the south and the
ferry pier is in the town center. |
