Jakarta,
Indonesia's capitol, is a typical example of aggressive Asian
development. Impressive modern business and shopping complexes
are appearing in the middle of slum areas. Visibly showing the
huge division between rich and poor in Jakarta society.
Jakarta isn't a popular tourist destination. The major entry
point to Indonesia, many travelers arrive and try to leave to
other parts of Java as quickly as possible. The city is big,
noisy, polluted & dirty. Getting around is stressful, the
bus system is confusing and pickpockets are in operation. Accommodation
is expensive by Indonesian standards. There are some attractions
but nothing to compare with elsewhere in Indonesia.
