Transport
AEL(Airport Express) High speed train connecting the airport and HK island in 23min. You can take the train directly from the arrival hall. Tickets are sold by vending machines, just before the train.
Cost : OW/RT to HK Station(Central) $70/120, to Kowloon Station $60/100 Day Return is same as single and RT ticket is good for a month.
Kowloon Station is far from TST, guest house area. but shuttle bus is free with the AEL Tickets.
To Airport, you can buy the tickets from major hotel in TST and get a free shuttle.

Cheapest way:
take MTR from TST station and change the line at Lai King then to Tung Chung station. $15, 40min. From here take bus #51($4) or #61($3.5)

T Kowloon Canton Railway(KCR) starts from East TST to China via Shenzhen.
Hungham Terminal is 20min from TST on foot. You can take this line at MRT Kowloon Tong. Some MRT tickets are valid on this line.
Reservations for trains heading to China beyond Shenzhen, are difficult to get. You should book at least a few day earlier. the train fare to main land China cost more in hong Kong. cheaper to buy in Shenzhen Station.
B Buses to China(Shenzhen,Guangzhou,Dongguan): leave from China Hong Kong City W from Kowloon Park, 10 min.from Chung King mansion
F ferry to Macau: running 24hr. The pier is 20min. W from Central Star ferry pier. Weekend and night boats cost more.


Local Transport
Most transport stops around midnight. There is a limited night bus service after midnight.
MTR: Connects Kowloon & HK Island, covers most of HK, very convenient. Tickets cost HK$4-12.50, depending on distance.
Octopass: hightech pass. You deposit $50 and pay + $100 for credit. When you pass a gate, you don't put it though a machine like a normal ticket but put the card on the sensor. It works even if your pass is in a bag. The fare will be automatically deducted from the card. When you use up the $100 credit just pay more and have the credit entered on the card. When you leave from HK, You can ask for a refund. You don't get any discount, it's just convenient. The pass is valid on KCR.
BUS/Minibus: Several bus companies cover areas that MTR doesn't. Most buses are double-deckers, good for sightseeing, but there are often delays during peak hours. The fares are not based on distance, but according to routes, so some buses are cheaper than others even though they end up at the same destination.
Trams: Double-deckers running E to W on the N side of HK Is. Many different destinations, but all trams pass through the central district, Wan Chai, Central, etc. Good for sightseeing, but avoid during peak time as they are very crowded. HK$2 No change given.
Ferry: Between: HK Is. & Kowloon; HK Is. & other islands in the area. Runs 7-23:00

KCR - Kowloon-Canton Railway. Runs to the Chinese border. Costs - HK$3.50-9.0. depending on distance. Cost to Lo Wu (border), HK$33. Must have passport and Chinese visa. Trains run every 3-10min.
Light Railway system now operational. We don't know how useful this service is for tourist at this time.HK$4-5.8
Taxi: $15 for the first 2km, then $1.4/200m. the cost for tunnels are extra. You must pay for the taxi to return. 2 way costs: Cross Harbor Tunnel-$20, Eastern Harbor Tunnel $30, Western Harbor Tunnel $45. Luggage $5/p

Many travel agents arrange trips to China, Mongolia & Russia, as well as trans-Siberian train tickets. also book hotels in HK.
Airtickets are not cheap anymore.

HK used to be a shopping paradise, but not any more. The prices are not much different from your home country. But sometime you can get "special goods"(Pirate copies) at "special prices".
Computer goods Hardware, parts, & software etc. including computer games. All copies of software are gone officially. But you can still get them However they are totally illegal now. !Warning. They may be confiscated by customs when you enter a different country, return home, etc.
