There are many high quality budget guesthouses, hotels in Chiang Mai. Many of them have attached bathroom, Hot water & good restaurants. It's often possible to get a reduced rate due to the competition.
All rooms listed below have attached bathrooms, unless otherwise stated.
2006 Research summery: The cost of GHs has been slightly increased from the year 2004. Many middle class rooms equipped CTV. More GHs deal with trekking and it is very hard to stay there unless you book the trekking. The cost of the trekking is much more expensive than the normal cost.
Warning: When you are told that they have a room but you must wait until it gets cleaned and they started selling their trekking tour, DO NOT waste time to wait there. No chance to get the room unless you buy their tour.
When you arrive Chiang Mai by train, many GHs are waiting at the station. You may take trekking-tour GH's transport to the town for free.
