Naresuan Rd. running E to W. Main road where you can find McDonald on the N side and Chao Phrom market on the S side. This road leads to the historical park. Buses to Bangkok also depart from this road.
U-Thong Rd.: running N to S. E side of the island. If you go N from the main market, you can find a night market, GPO and old center of Ayutthaya.

Good info, such as hotel lists, bus info, sight info.and map, available. the small booklet "Ayutthaya" is excellent. Helpful English speaking staff.
$ Bank: Many on Naresuan Rd. & U-Thong Rd.(NE of island) such as Thai Farmers bank. On weekends when the banks are closed, it's possible to change T/C at the exchange van. see below

Transport
T Train station: E from island, take ferry(2-3B) to near the market ferry landing is 50m from the station. For main Guest House Area take ferry then walk 10min. ATM, toilet 3B. Cost to BKK 20B
B1 Bus station: Naresuan Rd, next to Chao Phrom Market.
Bus to regional towns, Saraburi, Suphanburi(then Kanchanaburi). No English sign.
B2 Main Bus Station: 4km E from the town, near Ayutthaya Grand Hotel. Take route 309, main road S from the train stein. For long distance buses. Access: Bus #5 or Truck mini bus(take one from the bridge S from the main market.)
B3 BKK Bus station: Naresuan Rd W from B1.Big buses on the N side and nini vans are on S side.

City Transport
Ayutthaya is large. It is hard to look around on foot. Bicycles are best inside of the main island. If you go out, you may rent a motor bike or hire a tuk-tuk.
City buses: #3, #5 buses are running in town. #5 bus passes near the main bus station(B2)
Songthaews / tuk-tuk 40-50B or 150B/hr
some Songthaews operate on set routes: 4B no info at this time.
Rental Bicycle: Many guesthouses and shops rent bicycles. 30-50B
rb Rental Bicycle: Many in town 30-50B. The convenient locatons are ones just opp from the train station and ones near Ayuthaya GH
F Boat Piers: Pay at the town side, not at the train station side. Two boats frequently connect from the train station to the main Ayutthaya town. As coming out from the train station, go straight(W) to the pier. If you take the stair to right, the ferry costs 2/1B(person/bike), to the left 3/2B. 3B ferry arrives 150m closer to the main market and the main GH area.

m1 Chao Phrom Market near the middle distance bus station.
m2 Hua Ro Market U-Tong Rd. N from Chao Phrom Market in front of Kasem Palace(National Museum). It is also a Night Market Popular but seems low quality.
s Amiporn Dep. Naresuan Rd. a/c super market inside 9-21:00, food court on 3F 10-35B cheap but low quality
Souvenir shops Many in front of Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit. Some good ones are NE from Wat Phraram.

Sep 8-9 Swan Boat Race: held on Chao Praya River in front of Bang Sai Royal Folk Center
Nov 21-25 Loi Krathong & boat race: Held on full moon at Beun Phra Ram lake. Candles and flowers in paper boats, are floated on the lake from Chan Kasem Pier. Fireworks, dancing.
Dec 7-16 Ayutthaya World Heritage Site Festival:
Many events including light up, light show & fire works. Events schedule (Thai language only) available from TAT.

Sound & light show: N of Wat Phra Si Sanphet, 19:00, 100-200B (1997 prices). Tickets available from TAT. English, Japanese, French earphone recorded translations available at gate,deposit (refundable) required.
Train-like-shuttle: During the festival dinky shuttle buses operates between the historical sites. 10B/p
